چکیده

This paper proposes a novel approach to early determination of zero-quantized 8× 8 discrete cosine transform (DCT) coefficients for fast video encoding. First, with the dynamic range analysis of DCT coefficients at different frequency positions, several sufficient conditions are derived to early determine whether a prediction error block (8× 8) is an all-zero or a partial-zero block, i.e., the DCT coefficients within the block are all or partially zero-quantized. Being different from traditional methods that utilize the sum of absolute difference (SAD) of the entire prediction error block, the sufficient conditions are derived based on the SAD of each row of the prediction error block. For partial-zero blocks, fast DCT/IDCT algorithms are further developed by pruning conventional 8-point butterflybased DCT/IDCT algorithms. Experimental results exhibit that the proposed early determination algorithm greatly reduces computational complexity in terms of DCT/IDCT, quantization, and inverse quantization, as compared with existing algorithms.

A two-stage algorithm for the early detection of zero-quantized discrete cosine transform coefficients in High Efficiency Video Coding

For High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) using block-based prediction, the discrete cosine transform (DCT), and quantization, a large number of DCT coefficients in a transform block (TB) are commonly found to be quantized to zero. A two-dimensional transform in HEVC is usually implemented by first applying a butterfly-based one-dimensional (1D) DCT to each row of the residual block, followed by ...

A Robust Digital Blind Image Watermarking Based on Spread Spectrum in DCT Domain

This paper presents a new method in blind digital watermarking based on Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT). The image is quantized in 8×8 blocks, a DCT transform is applied to each block and a collection containing the first two AC coefficients from the DCT transform of the 8×8 image block (coefficient (2,1) and (1,2)) and the bias member, which is zero, is set. The watermark is coded in spread sp...

Position-dependent encoding

In typical video compression algorithms, the DCT is applied to the video, and the resulting DCT coefficients are quantized and encoded for transmission or storage. Most of the DCT coefficients are quantized to zero. Efficient encoding of the DCT coefficients is usually achieved by encoding the location and the amplitude of the non-zero coefficients. Since in typical MC-DCT compression algorithm...

Efficient predictive model of zero quantized DCT coefficients for fast video encoding

Discrete cosine transform (DCT), quantization (Q), inverse quantization (IQ) and inverse DCT (IDCT) are the building blocks in video coding standards adopted by ITU-T and MEPG. Under these standards, a lot of computations are required to perform the DCT, Q, IQ and IDCT operations. With this concern, a novel statistical model based on Gaussian distribution is proposed to predict zero quantized D...

Quantized DCT on H26L Test Model

This paper describes the implementation of a Quantized Discrete Transform algorithm (QDCT) for an H.26L test model. The QDCT is used for both MPEG and H.263 video coding [1]. The MPEG and H.263 coding are based on fractional 8x8 blocks. The new H.26L video standard uses a residue transform that is based on a 4x4 block and an integer transform. Several implementations of the QDCT are proposed in...
